“Don-Ming Memorial Building” Awarded the First Prize of Far East Architectural Award
The fifth “Far East Architectural Award--Campus Building Special Award” was revealed yesterday, and the First Prize was given to “College of Design Building of Shih Chien University—Don-Ming Memorial Building” There were 33 works involved in this competition, and 7 of them were nominated into the final stage by the Examination Committee including Fan Sun-Lu, the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education and Han Pao-The, the Curator of Museum of World Religious who also served as a convener. The 7 works including “Taichung Wagor Bilingual Primary School” by TAI Architect & Associates； “Hualien Xi-Bao Elementary School” and “Nantou Yu-Ying Elementary School Reconstructive Project” by D.Z. Architects & Associates；“Wufen Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School Reconstructive Project-Teaching and Practical Complex and Teaching Practical Factory” by AURA Architects & Associates；“College of Design Building of Shih Chien University—Don-Ming Memorial Building” by ARTECH ARCHITECTS；“Tainan National University of Art-Graduate Institute of Conservation of Cultural Relics s” by Chang-Shu Architects & Associates；and “Humanities Building of Tunghai University” by EGG Magazine and Studiobase Architects.
Cheng Chung-Mo, the Vice President of the Judicial Yuan served as the Chairman of Final Examination Committee and the other 7 judges included Fan Sun-Lu, the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education；Han Pao-The, the Curator of Museum of World Religious；Wang Ming-Hung, the Associate Professor of National Cheng Kung University；C.Y. Wu, the Chairman and President of Elite Corporation；Chen Mei, the architect；Tseng Chun-Tei, the Associate Professor of Tunghai University Dept. of Architecture；and Liu Yu-Tung, the Director of National Chiao Tung University Graduate Institute of Architecture.
Accompanied by Douglas Hsu, the Chairman of Far Eastern Memorial Foundation, Final Examination Committee reviewed the nominated six works on the spot. On the other hand, “Hualien Xi-Bao Elementary School” was presented by D.Z. Architects & Associates with video and slides in Yu-Ying Elementary School. There are three voting sections. After practical reviewing those works on the night before last night, Final Examination Committee decided their three favorite works at the first round. The three works were “College of Design Building of Shih Chien University—Don-Ming Memorial Building” by ARTECH ARCHITECTS；“Humanities Building of Tunghai University” by EGG Magazine and Studiobase Architects；and “Nantou Yu-Ying Elementary School Reconstructive Project” by D.Z. Architects & Associates. And, it came out the same result at the second voting section. Finally, the First Prize was decided and given to “College of Design Building of Shih Chien University—Don-Ming Memorial Building”. In addition, “Humanities Building of Tunghai University” was given the masterpiece with the voting result of 4:3 over “Nantou Yu-Ying Elementary School Reconstructive Project”.
