The Quanta Research and Development Center is a high-tech campus for technological research, cultural and leisure functions. Apart from R & D spaces, the complex also houses a performing hall, a museum, a “Think Tank” and staff amenities such as recreation and dining facilities. The complex is composed of two interlocking masses resonate with the traditional Chinese Ying and Yang, leaving open a large courtyard that serves as the focal point for the complex.
The canopy covering the courtyard is the most prominent element of the center above the inner plaza. The aerodynamic “Think-Tank” projects outward from the canopy offering an expansive view of the center and the grand canopy below. The east, west and south facades of the building are adorned with barcode-like aluminum and glass sunshades. The perforated aluminum panels and patterned glass create a visually appealing layered elevation with a high-tech image of the building.
