FAB in the forest
The spacious TSMC's Nanjing Campus is to be a grand milestone of the enterprise. It marks a new epoch as one new development of high-tech companies in China. The Campus is envisioned to be a sustainable, high-tech, and humanistic, environment combining the R&D and production. Planning the extensive site, KRIS YAO | ARTECH's basic concept is to bring abundant plants in generous landscapes. As the lush vegetation surrounds the futuristic and humanistic spaces for working, the Campus is to be a FAB in the forest.
Future and nature
The architectural imagery is serial transformation of circular forms, symbolizing TSMC's leading role in high-level wafer production. In this campus, the tubular R&D Office, disc- like Campus Gate, metallic cylindrical FAB complex, as two interlocked-circles are all streamlined in futuristic forms. Enveloped in silvery metal-panels, they seem to float above or within the forest. The 180m-diametered lake not only serves for scenic and leisure purposes, but also mitigate the local hydrology and sub-climate, and enhance the biodiversity. Most with opened ground floor, the buildings touch the earth lightly and are assimilated into the landscape. It represents the merge of future and nature.
Humanistic space
Through the planning of high efficiency and carefully consideration, the FAB plant and its subsidiaries are Through the planning of high efficiency and carefully consideration, the FAB plant and its subsidiaries are unified as one single volume. Together with the Campus Gate and the lake, the buildings are like interconnected ripples. In the design of the R&D Office Tube, the staff working space and product logistic path are combined, and a green sky-walk will link the offices of Phase I and II developments. The overall architectural intentions are aiming at the possibility of communication among staff and the diversity of daylighting and views of the foliage. While the horizontal planning of working zones fosters a highly efficient working ambiance, the design, by bringing the outside in, provides lavishly green living environment. Combing sustainability, technology, and humanities, this is to be a 21 century campus of manufacturing and working.
