The Taiwan Xiqu Center will be the first repertory theater in Taiwan for traditional performing arts and music, with multipurpose venues for performing, creating art and rehearsals. The complex is composed with two large volumes staggered in opposite directions, accompanied by a singular smaller volume. The northern building slopes from west to east and ends at the entrance plaza on the east side. This building is mainly for performing arts, it includes a 1150 seat proscenium theater and the creation, rehearsal, administration and storage functions for the repertoire troupe, the south building slopes from east to west, with its grand east elevation acting as the backdrop of the outdoor Xiqu plaza. It includes a 250 seat Black Box theatre, and various spaces for the traditional music.

The open spaces formed by the north and south building maybe the most active and important elements in this complex. Arriving from the east, the Xiqu plaza and the entrance plaza are equipped for large outdoor performances; ascending the central grand stairs and landing on the Xiqu Promenade in between two buildings, visitors can watch informal performances, attend creative fairs, enjoy street arts or watch performances in the various mid-sized rehearsal-turn performing halls; passing through the buildings, one would reach the west terrace by the river to enjoy the views towards the famous Guanyin Mountain, or further proceed to the sidewalks of the bridge to cross the river. Therefore, a visit to the Taiwan Xiqu Center can be more than just attending performances, but also a part of daily life for the citizens.
