Located in a low-density housing development in central Tianmu amid mountain greenery, the project site is set in an environment of rare high quality for urban Taipei. The schools and other educational and cultural amenities nearby, as well as the distinctive international flavor of this Taipei neighborhood, are important considerations in the design and planning of the project. Taking into account its advantageous location and international position, the project lays a major focus on the symbiotic relationship between two major functions in its placement: the need for large floorage housing, and compatibility with commercial space in this important business district of Zhongshan N. Rd.
The project consists of two residential buildings, one with 16 and the other with 11 above-ground floors, with four underground levels that are interconnected. The volumes, built on the idea of scattered elements, boasts multi-level terraced, landscaped gardens and an impressive private, independent lobby on the ground floor. To overcome the limitations of the topography, we created a complete and fully functional common area on the second floor. To keep the commercial and residential spaces separate, the area along prosperous Zhongshan N. Rd. is designed to be a series of storefronts intermixed with spacious landscaped pedestrian areas. The entrance to the residential area is located within a level alley area, fully isolating the commercial and residential areas to preserve residential quality.
In terms of spatial sense, the architectural spatial concept of this project is derived from the classic Greek island image of Santorini, with row upon row of domed, white walled buildings. The design presents the idea of layered and scattered elements, the exterior colors and materials chosen in an attempt to reflect the cultural context. Ceramic panels replace traditional stone on the exterior walls, and the latest green building concept have been employed. The project imparts an understated modern cultural ambiance, directly revealing its interaction with its surroundings and its new position in architecture through design techniques and changes in material, fully displaying its innovative functionality through the beauty of design.
