高速鐵路新竹站是旅客抵達新竹都會區的門戶象徵。新竹站的屋頂結構因應新竹地區著名的強大季節風而成型。曲面的屋頂彷彿被風鼓動的風帆,隨著視線的拉遠,輕盈薄透的量體如同一張對角彎折的紙片,狀似舞者充滿張力的肢體動線,清晰地表現出建築師最初的靈感瞬間。
車站主體屋頂為平形四邊形彎曲而成的曲面屋頂,屋面由六組巨型空間桁架撐起,兩端以輕巧的姿態落地,錨定於車站主體兩側的造型柱上,強化視覺上飛躍動勢的氣體力學造型。車行軌道與月臺空間為露天式設計,解決列車高速通過月臺時產生的活塞效應。曲面玻璃帷幕及延伸的石材面牆形塑出對稱與橢圓的車站大廳。室內大量採用自然光源,兩道弧形牆面分別於北上與南下的入口,以藝術性的創作呈現,“未來”與“傳統”兩者之間新舊的對話。
